Daniella Thach (b. 1998) is a Cambodian-American artist based in the Midwest working in light (ពន្លឺ) and new media. Culture and craft go hand in hand in their practice. They are invested in what is brought down from mother to daughter and from master to apprentice; both connections develop deep understandings that pass its traditions into the future. Familial memory and handcrafted objects form sacred ties to past peoples and their knowledge to transcend time and progress lineage. Thach traces a line with multi-light media through a country’s violent history and the diasporic impact on family to form a new, amalgamous identity.
Thach is currently a Master of Fine Arts candidate in the glass department and recipient of the Ed-GRS Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
