Child or pronounced “koun” in khmer, is the word for child. However, in this small neon piece, I do not complete the khmer word with its usual gender signifier for masculine “koun-bproh” or feminine “koun-srey.” As someone who is non-binary, I challenge that the word can exist without the need to label gender binary, son or daughter, and it can simply be child, or “koun”. 

This became a small 10 by 10 inch piece. It features the khmer word “koun” in gold neon with a photo of me on my birthday with my mom and dad.
